- LA Ink is a TLC reality series starring Miami Ink star Kat Von D. The tattooist moves herself to Los Angeles and opens a new parlor. The show follows Kat and her new team as they struggle to keep their business afloat while also dealing with their own personal lives.
Getting her own television show has made it tremendously hard for tattoo lovers to get inked by the famous but she assures that those who are patiently waiting in line will be rewarded. They won't even have to worry about big-time celebrities like Angelina Jolie cutting in line.“She doesn't get a pass to the front of the line,” Von D who stars in TLC's reality series
While her TV fame has certainly meant a constant flow of customers in her LA-based tattoo shop. High Voltage Tattoo she has encountered a number of jealous peers all of whom have been quick to judge and criticize her despite her hard-earned success. “I've had a lot of haters I guess you could call them,” she said. “They're just jealous and insecure. To me it doesn't really matter. I'm just here to give tattoos. That's about it.” Kat Von D began tattooing at around the same time she received her very first tattoo. Since then she has worked hard to develop her own unique style and is now known most for her black & white portraits and designs. “I'm a big fan of my style. I think it's different,” Von D said. “A lot of people don't like it. But I think my art and musical influences definitely have something to do with how I look.” Her body itself is a work of art with an array of tattoos covering almost every space in her body. “Sometimes when I'm in a bathing suit I'll go. ‘Oh my God!' because I forget how many tattoos I actually have,” the LA Ink star told
“I'm pretty covered. It took a lot of work to get this many tattoos. I'm proud of them.” Another thing that Kat Von D is proud of is LA Ink which she landed after she left TLC's other tattoo-centered reality series.
She hopes that the achievements of the show's female-dominated cast will empower women everywhere but she also believes that at this time the world is still being run largely by men. “I think the whole planet is a man's world,” she said. “Everything is male dominated. Truth be told. I would really rather be known for my tattooing than my gender.” -Lisa Claustro. BuddyTV Staff Columnist Source: Steppin' Out (Image Courtesy of buzzfocus com)
